Aluminium design, four colours and 120 Hz displays
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max use an aluminium unibody, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. Both models meet the IP68 rating. Apple retains the 6.3- and 6.9-inch diagonals, resolutions of 2622 × 1206 and 2868 × 1320 pixels, and a density of 460 ppi.
The Super Retina XDR OLED displays support ProMotion up to 120 Hz, Always-On mode, HDR, up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness and an anti-reflective coating. The new version of Dynamic Island can show up to three Live Activities at once.

iPhone 18 Pro cameras: variable aperture confirmed
The biggest camera upgrade comes to both Pro models, not just Pro Max. The 48 MP Fusion main camera has a variable aperture with ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0 settings. This lets it control the amount of light and depth of field depending on the scene.
There are three 48 MP Fusion cameras on the back: main, ultra-wide and telephoto. The telephoto offers a 100 mm focal length at 4× and 200 mm at 8× optical quality. Maximum digital zoom is 40×. On the front is an 18 MP Center Stage camera with autofocus.
What changes for video?
Features aimed at creators include Dolby Vision 4K, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, genlock, dual-camera recording and the ability to add Cinematic mode effects after recording. The main camera can also use manual aperture, shutter speed and white-balance controls, plus a histogram.
A20 Pro, vapour chamber and new connectivity
At the heart of both phones is the A20 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a dual 16-core Neural Engine system. Apple pairs it with a new-generation vapour chamber and claims up to 40% higher sustained performance compared with iPhone 17 Pro.
The specification also includes Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, the Apple N1 chip, a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, Thread, NFC and the Apple C2 cellular modem. The phones ship with iOS 27.
Battery and charging: up to 43 hours of video and 50% in about 15 minutes
According to the official specification, iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 23 hours of typical use and up to 34 hours of video playback. iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 29 and 43 hours respectively.
Both models can reach up to 50% charge in about 15 minutes with a compatible USB‑C power adapter rated at 60 W or more with voltage regulation. With a MagSafe charger and a power adapter of at least 35 W, reaching 50% should take about 30 minutes.
MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging works at up to 25 W. The USB‑C connector supports USB 3 up to 10 Gb/s and DisplayPort. A power adapter is not included; Apple supplies a 1 m USB‑C cable.
iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro – is it worth upgrading?
This is not a generation that every iPhone 17 Pro owner needs to buy automatically. The body dimensions and display size remain the same, and the 17 Pro already offered three 48 MP cameras, an 8× optical-quality telephoto, ProMotion up to 120 Hz and USB 3.
18 Pro makes more sense if:

- you need longer battery life and faster charging,
- you will make use of A20 Pro and improved cooling,
- you want the 2 TB version or a new colour.
17 Pro is still a sensible choice if:

- you do not need variable aperture,

Do iPhone 17 Pro cases fit iPhone 18 Pro?
